Form 1 Laser Engraving of L.I.
a division of ATT-Tactical®

With our in-house laser marking capabilities, NFA and custom engraving has never been quicker and easier. Our engraving meets or exceeds ATF height and depth requirements. But read the following first…

The Requirements:

(This pertains to New York only – The penal law does not recognize TRUSTS in section §265.20(a) as being exempt when it comes to Firearm Possession. This is why NFA does not recognize Trusts as bonafide qualified Law Enforcement Officers of NYS)

Maker:  “Joe Bolton” or “J. Bolton” – This is the name that you indicated and supplied in box 4h of the ATF Form-1 (ATF 5320.1) paperwork. You started with a Title 1 Firearm and “MADE” a Title 2 out of it.

Location:  Freeport, New York (or NY) – This is the city and state where the NFA firearm was made. – This is the city and state that was supplied in box 4h of the ATF Form-1 (ATF 5320.1) paperwork

Engraving Requirements and depths required per the ATF National Firearms Act Handbook:
For firearms manufactured, or made, the engraving, casting, or stamping (impressing) of the serial number must be to a minimum depth of .003 inch and in a print size no smaller than 1/16 inch; Type Face must be of a style easily readable (this has become a sore point with Examiners) because if it’s not, the firearm will be considered unmarked and subject to confiscation and a heavy fine.

The maker’s Markings MUST be on a surface readily visible without disassembly of the firearm.

Metal Receivers have several choice places to be marked but most AR Makers have chosen the inside flair of the mag well lip as it would hopefully be examined unloaded, with the magazine removed.

Polymer receivers has always brought up the question as to whether such a mark could be easily obliterated thus not complying with the NFA Rule that “This information must be placed in a manner not susceptible of being readily obliterated, altered or removed. Your “Polymer-80” home-built receiver, unless it has the built-in metal marking band embedded into the receiver will not be in compliance as far as our judgement goes. We highly doubt such will pass muster with a federal inspection before trial.

If You Are the Original Manufacturer (You manufactured it from scratch and not an existing firearm):

If you are manufacturing the NFA firearm yourself from a design, e.g. a silencer then you will need to create a serial number for the NFA firearm.  The requirements taken from the ATF National Firearms Act Handbook state that, “If the weapon is of new manufacture, the applicant must assign a unique serial number and enter it in Block 4(g). For example, a unique serial number could be composed of at least 4 digits preceded by the initials of the maker. NOTE: alpha characters, e.g., a name, will not be accepted as a serial number. If a name is to be used, there must be at least one numeric character in addition to the alpha characters.”  Below is the information that will need to be engraved on the NFA firearm that you are manufacturing.

You are applying as an individual on your ATF Form 1 (ATF 5320.1) paperwork use the following example:

Manufacturer:  “Joe Bolton” or “J. Bolton” – This is the name that you indicated and supplied in box 4a of the ATF Form-1 (ATF 5320.1) paperwork

Location:  Rotterdam Junction, New York (or NY) – This is the city and state where the NFA firearm was manufactured. – This is the city and state that was supplied in box 4h of the ATF Form-1 (ATF 5320.1) paperwork

Model: Model number that you created for your NFA firearm and that was supplied on box 4d.

Caliber:  This is the caliber of the NFA firearm that you are manufacturing and that was supplied on box 4c.

Serial Number:  Serial number that you created for your NFA firearm and that was supplied on box 4g.

Handguns manufactured fron scratch are aldo a sticking point. New York State Police actually has regulatory powers over personally manufactured “firearms” (Title 1) and their Forencis Lab is the entity who “Proofs” your home-made assembly for safety prior to you having it registered to you under the Sullivan Law.
